IT IS ONLY ONE BIT OF WAX - SAID 35 MILLION SURFERS....
Unfortunately, most of the surf equipment is harmful to nature. Not only wetsuits & surfboards are environmentally toxic - also surf wax, sunscreen, leashes, etc. harm our natural surroundings. It can seem meaningless because you only use a 'little amount' - like a bit of wax here and there or some drops of sunscreen. But when you add it up.....!!!! •
Mostly it takes in the beginning a little bit of courage, goodwill, and patiency to change habits. But once you stepped 'out of the box' changing a habit it feels easy, amazing, and empowering. We all learned to go into a surfshop to buy some nice-smelling (sometimes funny-sounding) surfwax. It is easy, it is functional, it smells good,.....and....unfortunately most of them are not biodegradable and end up in the ocean. For a long time I didn't know how easy, interesting, and FUN (!) it can be to produce and use your own organic products such as surf wax, zinc, creams, deodorant etc.
Get yourself inspired by the following recipe and try it yourself :)
WARM WATER WAX:
- 2.25 g bee's wax (organic)
- 750 ml coconut oil (organic)
It is easy: First melt the bee's wax and then stir it into the coconut oil. You need to stir a lot until it will get the consistency you want. Pour the liquid into paper cups and let it cool down. READY :)
COLD WATER WAX:
- 3 parts bee's wax (organic)
- 1 part coconut oil (organic)
- 1 part tree resin (organic)
Procedure is the same like above just including the tree resin. Tree resin can be bought in the form of granulated incense. It can also be taken at the source, straight from a tree (if it belongs to you).
ENJOY and spread the word to your friends :)
Até já.
